Pocheon is neighboring with Gapyeong and Hwacheon to the east, and Yangju to the west, and Uijeongbu and Namyangju to the south and Yeoncheon and Cheorwon to the north. It occupies with the 826.41 square kilometer, which account for the 8.1% of the total territory of Gyeonggi province. Pocheon is the center region of Korean peninsular, 30.8 km long east to west and 47.9 km long north to south. It is promoted to urban - rural composite city status in Oct., 2003 with 1 town, 11 subcounties and 2 dongs. Some parts of the city are not authorized to reside owing to the scheme of Military. The population is 157,839 with 62,568 households as of August, 2007.
Located in the center of Korea, the climate of Pocheon is also the average of Korea. The annual mean temperature is 9.8¡É, the average in January is £6.0¡É, and the average in August is 23.7¡É. The average amount of precipitation over the year is 1,363.1mm.
Pocheon is outstretched over the northeast of the Gwangju mountain range to the southwest of it, and is forming a valley in an oval shape in the middle. Some of the mountains in the city include Baegunsan, Gungmangbong, Hyeondeungsan, Myeongseongsan, and Gwangdeoksan.

The region is known for poultry, livestock, ginseng, pine nuts, Pocheon rice wine and Ilong beef rib. The popular cultural and tourist spots include Banwol sacred ground, Gwangreung tree garden, a mountaintop lake and the Bakwoon valley.
As of December, 2005, the number of companies registered in Pocheon was 13,879 with 62,882 employees. In terms of business type, manufacturing industry has dominated. In 2006 alone, Pocheon¡¯s trade volume recorded US$453 Million with US $259 Million in export and US $194 Million in import. Also, Pocheon has convenient access to the metropolitan area with the recent expansion of No. 43 national road.
Over the past decades, Pocheon was lagged behind the economic development largely owing to the some regulations including the law of limited development area and the law of metropolitan growth management zones, which enforce the businesses to need permission to establish factories. Recently, as the megalopolis regulation is loosening and the role of regional governments is strengthening, Pocheon will be reborn as an economic, educational, and tourism hub and the self-sufficient city.
